As bright, sensitive, creative and spiritual women we are very open to our emotions. They are the source of our creativity. But when there are too many of them, they can easily overwhelm us. So what causes this overwhelm and how do you gain control again?

Overwhelm comes from past unexpressed emotions, piling up on each other. For most of us, this build up of suppressed emotions is more easily tapped into during heightened hormonal periods. This includes our monthly cycle, pregnancy and menopause.

On a physical level, these suppressed emotions creates tension in the body as we try to ‘hold them in’. Eventually the body demands balance be restored and that tension is released.

Unfortunately the release of this tension, in the form of emotional overwhelm, is rarely pretty. And the resulting shame can send us into further overwhelm and spirals of emotions.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. In this segment of #AskMelly, I share more on overwhelm and how to gain control when your emotions take over.
